“ It is good that UAS has come out with so many value added products from Jackfruit. FKCCI is ready to host a meeting in near future to introduce all the Jackfruit products to the country through the media”, said Shri R.Shivakumar, President of Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI).He was addressing the ‘Research-Industry Interface Meet on Jackfruit Value Added Products” organized by University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore at their North Block Conference Hall, GKVK on Tuesday, June 24^th.

          Dr K Narayana Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, UAS Bangalore who presided over the meet said “ bringing jackfruit marketing into organized structure and going for a variety of value additions are two best options for farmers to get fair price for Jackfruit.”

          Shri Ravikumar, Secretary of Toobugere Jack Growers Association recalled that after UAS Bangalore has organized them into the fold of  association, the hobli’s total income from Jackfruit has increased from Rs 3 lakh in 2008 to present 28 lakh Rupees.

          Dr. B. Ranganna, Dr. Shyamalamma of UAS Bangalore and ‘Shree’ Padre, Editor, Adike Patrike made presentations on Jackfruit value addition.

          The unique meet attracted Industry & farmer representatives not only from Karnataka, nut from Kerala  and  Karnataka too. All the participants were served with Jackfruit  Ice-Cream, Jackfruit Peda, Jackfruit Soft-drink, Jack seed powder Muffin and Jack Seed powder biscuit.

          Ready to Cook Tender Jackfruit to be sold as vegetable, a product of very high potential the production of which is standardized by UAS attracted high attention. A good number of participants showed interest to take up production of some of the show-cased jackfruit products.

          Among the important participants were Officers of  Kerala’s Milk Marketing giant - Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma), Shri Sharan Kumar, Managing Director, The Kerala Agro Industries Corporation Ltd (KAICO, A Kerala Govt Undertaking), Shri KB Udayakumar, Managing Director, Freshreach Retail & Growers Agri Reach (GAR), a Karnataka Company that markets 150 fruits and vegetables direct from farmers fields to different Super markets in Karnataka and Kerala and Shri Mahesh Patil, ZP Member from Kolhapur and a number of farmer enterpruners and small scale food processors.
